TEHRAN – The Iranian Red Crescent Society has sent a consignment of relief items as aid to those affected by the devastating flood in Libya.

“A package weighing some 40 tons, including tents, blankets, mats, medicaments, and foodstuff has been sent to Libya,” IRCS head Pir-Hossein Kolivand said, Mehr reported.

Three rescue teams have also been dispatched to the flood-hit areas, he added.

A tsunami-sized flash flood swept through the Libyan port city of Derna on Sunday, killing more than 11,000 people. Over 10,000 are feared missing.

“In this hard situation, on behalf of the IRCS and myself, I would like to express my condolence to you and your colleagues in the Libyan Red Crescent and announce our readiness to send humanitarian relief consignment, relief items as well as dispatch the medical and relief teams to assist the flood affected people and humanitarian operation in Libya,” Kolivand wrote in a message on Tuesday to Omar Agouda, the president of Libyan Red Crescent Society.
